How about a little crazy on a Thursday?

If you remember, I cleared out some clothes here. But there are some that I could not bring myself to throw away. My favourite dresses that I won't wear anymore and a couple of sentimental pieces. So I'm keeping them!
And making them into this - the beginning of a crazy quilt that I've been wanting to make for a while. It'll be nice for the kids, a quilt with bits and pieces of my old clothes in it. That was how traditional quilts were made, anyway, from scraps and old clothes.
Working with old clothes is great. Not only is the cotton soft from many washes, you can pick out interesting details to highlight, like the bird embroidery below. Each crazy square is a labour of love, and time consuming. In theory you're supposed to randomly piece fabric together, but the process is not as random as you would think. I actually have to plan the colour scheme and even the shape of each piece - if I'm really industrious, I get about three pieces done a night.
Here's hoping I can show you the finished product soon!

Thank you Mable. It's not a new idea...quilters have been doing it for generations! BTW, envious of your sojourn in JAPAN!!!
